PATOS Youth Theatre
Empowering Youth through Drama and Community Engagement
Founded in 1986, PATOS is a youth theatre dedicated to the non-formal education of children and young people through drama. Its mission is to foster self-esteem, critical thinking, and intercultural learning through devised theatre. As a long-term partner of the Cultural Center of Smederevo, PATOS offers a theatre stage, workshop hall, and office space.
PATOS stands for “Alternative Youth Theatre in Motion of Smederevo” and draws inspiration from the ever-flowing Danube River, reflecting a continuous stream of artistic ideas.
The theatre specializes in intercultural learning, peer-to-peer education, creative drama techniques, and live performances. It is also experienced in organizing festivals and stage management. PATOS regularly collaborates with schools, supporting teachers in extra-curricular drama activities and offering training in intercultural education.
The theatre addresses critical social issues, including environmental pollution, bullying, and discrimination, while promoting creativity and collaboration. In 2023, it produced the musical CyberSide Story, where high school students tackled cyberbullying through acting, singing, and dancing.
Through the Erasmus+ project BAM – Bullying a Matter of Self-Esteem, PATOS provides valuable drama tools such as workshops and scriptwriting, demonstrating its belief in the transformative power of the arts for social change.
